Petrobras has awarded an Italian-based supplier of cable systems a USD 260m contract, the company announced on Tuesday, as part of a frame agreement to supply umbilical products for oil and gas extraction offshore Brazil.

Under the agreement, Prysmian Group will provide the Brazilian oil giant with 360 km of umbilicals, most of which will be used in pre-salt fields, in 16 different cross sections and related ancillaries, offshore services and qualifications.

Petrobras has also awarded the company an extension until 2016 of the existing USD 95m frame agreement for flexible pipes for the Macabu, Jubarte and Marlim Leste fields.

“We [are]… taking another significant step forward in our technological cooperation agreement with Petrobras” says José Luiz Dacal Castro, VP and Hhad of Prysmian’s SURF BU. “We are also strongly engaged to develop products and technologies for the harsher pre-salt layer”.

The umbilicals and flexible pipes for the new contracts will be manufactured at Prysmian Group’s industrial plant in Vila Velha, Brazil. The facility is fully dedicated to subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF).
