Petrogal Brasil will apply Paradigm’s interpretation and modelling software in all its exploration and development projects in the country, the seismic company announced on Monday.

The oil and gas company will use the technologies to conduct stratigraphic interpretation of the subsurface and gain a better understanding of the country’s offshore reservoirs, including deepwater reservoirs, Paradigm said.

The software package includes technologies like SeisEarth, designed to handle large-scale 2D and 3D seismic surveys; VoxelGeo, a volume-based structural and stratigraphic interpretation solution; and SKUA, a suite of subsurface modules used to create, edit and validate 3D structural, velocity and reservoir models.

Carlos Gonçalves, exploration manager at Petrogal Brasil said the interpretation suite has allowed the company’s exploration team to “obtain more accurate and reliable results”.

Petrogal Brasil, a joint venture between Portugal’s Galp Energia (70 per cent) and China’s Sinopec (30 per cent), began using Paradigm software in 2010 in its exploration and production activities in the Santos, Sergipe-Alagoas and Potiguar Basins.
