Once launched, the pipeline will carry 31 MMcm per day of natural gas to India

Iran and India held talks last month about the prospect of building a deep water pipeline through the Sea of Oman which would carry gas to the BRIC country, Iranian news agencies reported.

The pipeline is estimated to cost USD 4-5bn and carry 31 million cubic meters (MMcm) per day of natural gas to India once launched.

Ali Amirani, marketing manager at the National Iranian Gas Exports Co., stated that India’s South Asia Gas Enterprise Pvt. Ltd. (SAGE) has conducted feasibility studies for the planned 1,400-kilometer pipeline.

"Negotation were held with three Indian companies for [their] purchase of gas from Iran, and general agreements have been reached," Amirani was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.

Both countries will soon begin discussions about gas sales and pricing, following the completion of agreements this month, Iran's SHANA news agency quoted Amirani as saying.
